North Lakes Hotel and Spa in Penrith has completed a £760,000 refurbishment of 22 bedrooms.
The six-week project included remodelling bathroom layouts and updating furnishings.
The hotel, located off the M6 motorway, also renovated its Hartside meeting room during the works.
The property is owned by Thwaites, a family-run hospitality group that plans to upgrade further public areas at the site.
Designers used a colour palette of blues, greens, and neutrals to reflect the surrounding Lake District landscape.
The project follows a separate refurbishment of the venue’s other conference spaces, which was completed in 2024.
José Gomez, general manager, said: “We took suites and signature rooms, and stripped them back to a blank canvas. Our talented teams carefully and thoughtfully remodelled each room, making them more contemporary and comfortable while keeping function in mind.
“It was important for us to go beyond a surface-level makeover. We really considered each space and how we can utilise and maximise it to best suit our guests; we studied feedback and sought out expert opinion. It’s key that each of our rooms provide exactly what each traveller needs throughout their stay with us.”
He added: “We’re committed to continuous investment and improvement of North Lakes Hotel and Spa, and the refurbishment of our bedrooms and conference space is only the beginning.
“Our goal is to elevate guest experience and continue to position ourselves as a competitive destination for offering, location and comfort. We’re excited for guests to experience the new rooms, and we’re also excited to share more about what’s to come in the future.”
Rachel Wootton, head of interior design at Thwaites, concluded: “We wanted to create a space that felt calming and Cumbrian while also a little bit luxurious. Guests can expect blues, greens and neutrals with lots of textured layers for a subtle touch of elegance.
“Each room has bespoke artwork that leans into our stunning surroundings, as well as bespoke cabinets that house mini fridges – we’re big on the small details. The overall aim was to create a timeless space that matched who we are as a brand and where we’re placed on the map.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
