Minor Hotels has announced the development of Avani Kyoto, representing the hospitality brand’s first entry into the Japanese market.
Scheduled to open in 2030, the 240-room hotel is a joint development with Taisei Corporation and Heiwa Real Estate. The Bangkok-based operator will participate as both an investor and manager for the property.
The hotel will occupy the former Kyoto Shimbun headquarters on Karasuma Street in central Kyoto. The location sits adjacent to Marutamachi Station and within walking distance of the Kyoto Imperial Palace and Nijo Castle.
Development plans involve renovating the existing North Building and constructing a new South Building. The property will feature multiple dining outlets and shared social spaces designed for short and extended stays.
The project forms part of a wider expansion strategy by Minor Hotels following its joint venture with Royal Holdings. The partnership aims to establish a pipeline of properties across Japan under the Anantara, Avani and Tivoli brands.
