Marriott signs all-inclusive resort deals in Jamaica and Zanzibar

Marriott International has signed agreements with Catalonia Hotels and Resorts to open all-inclusive resorts in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Zanzibar in Tanzania.

The deal, signed in Barcelona on Wednesday (22 July), includes converting the former Catalonia Montego Bay into a 522-room Marriott resort by 2028. A new 271-room Autograph Collection property will open in Zanzibar in 2027.

Located near Sangster International Airport, the Montego Bay property will include 13 dining venues, three pools, a spa, a fitness centre, tennis courts and 12,917sqft of meeting space. The beachfront site also features a lazy river and over 2,130ft of shoreline.

The new Zanzibar resort will focus on wellness amenities, offering multiple swimming pools, a spa, a theatre and an oceanfront jetty with a seawater pool. Catalonia currently operates 82 hotels comprising more than 12,000 rooms across Europe and the Americas, including the Renaissance Barcelona Fira Hotel.

Marriott currently operates 38 all-inclusive properties across nine markets in the Caribbean and Latin America, with 16 more in development – representing 5,600 rooms. The company also has four all-inclusive projects in development across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), totalling nearly 1,990 rooms. Loyalty platform Marriott Bonvoy now has nearly 283 million members.

Laurent de Kousemaeker, chief development officer of Caribbean and Latin America at Marriott, said: “These agreements represent a significant milestone in our all-inclusive strategy and demonstrate the strength of our relationships with experienced owners seeking to maximise value through Marriott’s globally recognised brands.”

Jerome Briet, chief development officer EMEA at Marriott, said: “The addition of this Autograph Collection Resort in Zanzibar represents an important step in our all-inclusive expansion across the EMEA region.”

Manuel Valenzuela, chief commercial and operations officer of Catalonia Hotels and Resorts, added: “This agreement reflects leading international brands’ recognition of our operational excellence and the strength of our management model.”

The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
