Travelodge agrees deal for new 132-room Abbey Wood hotel

Travelodge has exchanged contracts to develop a new 132-room hotel in Abbey Wood, south-east London, as part of the regeneration of the Abbey Arms pub.

The six-storey hotel is being developed in partnership with Uplift Developments Ltd and will be located next to Abbey Wood railway station, providing access to Elizabeth line services into central London and local bus connections. The development is expected to support the ongoing regeneration of Abbey Wood, which is identified as an Opportunity Area in the London Plan and forms part of the Thamesmead Strategic Development Location.

Once completed, the hotel will provide accommodation for business and leisure travellers visiting Abbey Wood and wider south-east London, including Canary Wharf. The development will also create new employment opportunities for the local community. Travelodge, which operates more than 600 UK hotels, has identified a requirement for a further 300 locations.

Tony O’Brien, UK development director at Travelodge, said: “We are delighted to have exchanged contracts for a new Travelodge hotel in Abbey Wood, which will support the continued growth and regeneration of this well-connected part of London.

“As one of the stops on the Elizabeth Line, Abbey Wood has excellent transport links, with direct services into Canary Wharf in 10 minutes, Liverpool Street in 16 minutes and Bond Street in 23 minutes. This new hotel will provide high-quality, great-value accommodation for business and leisure travellers visiting the local area and central London. Travelodge has made a long-term commitment and looks forward to creating new opportunities for the local community.”

Jasdeep Mann, director of Uplift Developments, added: “As a local resident who grew up in Greenwich borough, I am delighted we have been able to agree on terms with the first national brand hotel in Abbey Wood. We hope this marks the beginning of the promised regeneration of Wilton Road.

“This new project is a massive win for our community. A brand new Travelodge hotel will be built right next to Elizabeth line train station. Even better, the Abbey Arms pub will get a complete makeover and a nice new coffee offering, saving it for generations to come.”
