Seamus Coen, general manager of Rusacks St Andrews, has announced he is set to depart from the role following a six-year tenure.
Coen joined the hotel in 2018 from RBH, where he was resort general manager. He has more than three decades of experience in the hospitality sector, including roles at Macdonald Hotels and Resorts and QHotels.
During his time with the hotel, the business underwent considerable changes including a refurbishment in 2021 and its reopening, alongside acting as the host for the 150th Open Championship in 2022 and the Walker Cup.
Speaking on his departure, Coen told Hotel Owner: “There are a number of achievements that I am very proud of, but ultimately they all come back to the same thing: building a team and a business that could realise the potential of such an extraordinary property and location.
“The transformation of Rusacks has been the standout achievement. Following the refurbishment and reopening, our ambition was to create a world-class hospitality experience worthy of St Andrews and its position at the home of golf. Together with the team, we delivered that transformation while continuing to operate in an extremely demanding environment.”
He added: “We developed a strong culture around the belief that if you look after your people, they will look after your guests. We created opportunities for people to grow, develop and become leaders and I have seen many members of the team progress during my time at Rusacks.
“For me, the achievement is not simply that Rusacks became a more successful hotel. It is that we built a business, a culture and a guest experience that I believe genuinely reflects the significance of its location.”
