Criterion Capital has announced the acquisition of Mansell Court, Tower Bridge, in the City of London, where it will open Zedwell Tower Bridge.
The new hotel will have 200 rooms and will mark Zedwell’s second opening in the City, following Criterion’s acquisition of One Princes Street in Bank.
Zedwell’s rooms are windowless by design, aiming to reduce energy consumption, eliminate heat gain, and avoid the environmental footprint of new construction projects.
Developed in-house by Criterion the rooms are soundproofed and feature body-cushioning mattresses, ambient lighting, and purified air.
Halima Aziz, head of hotels at Criterion, said: “The acquisition of Mansell Court is an exciting addition to our expanding portfolio, and we are thrilled to bring our innovative Zedwell concept to a second site in the City of London.
“This milestone not only strengthens our presence in one of the world’s most visited destinations but also reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering accessible, environmentally responsible, and thoughtfully designed urban retreats. We are proud to align closely with the City of London’s ‘Destination City’ strategy and we look forward to contributing to its vision for a thriving and sustainable future.”
In March, the company received planning permission to build a hotel on Princes Street in Edinburgh, its first hotel outside of London.
As part of the development, Criterion will be redeveloping a former Debenhams space which is a prominent listed building within Edinburgh’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Criterion said the hotel will have 652 beds across three accommodation types, designed to “enhance urban hospitality”.
The move is part of Criterion Capital’s plan to create 8,500 rooms by 2028, including new Zedwell locations in the City of London, York, Manchester, and Edinburgh.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
