Holiday Inn Luton Airport has been granted planning permission for a major expansion and refurbishment programme, which will see the hotel increase its capacity by more than 70%.
KE Hotels will add 89 guest bedrooms to the property through a multi-storey rear extension, taking the total number of rooms from 124 to 213.
The project will also include external upgrades to modernise the building and integrate the new structure with the existing hotel.
News of the development comes amid rising demand from both business and leisure travellers, with Luton Airport among the UK’s busiest regional aviation hubs. The airport is planning a new terminal and infrastructure upgrades to boost passenger capacity.
Universal Studios has also confirmed plans for a new theme park 30 minutes from the hotel, which KE Hotels said would further increase visitor demand in the area.
The expansion is expected to create 20 new full-time jobs, bringing the hotel’s total staff to 85.
ICA designed the extension, and planning consultant Ashton Hale submitted the application. Construction is due to begin later this year, with work scheduled in phases to minimise disruption to guests.
