Surya Hotels has completed a £5m refurbishment of Great Hallingbury Manor, its Tudor-style property near Bishop’s Stortford.
The 18-month project has overhauled the hotel, located five minutes from Stansted Airport, with new facilities including a lake-view restaurant, upgraded conference spaces and two self-contained woodland lodges. Four further lodges are planned.
The redevelopment expands the property to 50 bedrooms, with three new suites – one in the main house and two in the converted stable block – alongside the new lodges overlooking the hotel’s lake. The reconfigured garden room restaurant now features floor-to-ceiling windows and bi-fold doors designed to maximise natural light and views of the surrounding landscape.
Interior design was led by Jayne Nelson Interiors, incorporating bespoke lighting, wallpapers and furniture by British and European suppliers. The bedrooms feature Hypnos beds, fabrics by Nina Campbell and Jane Churchill, and furnishings by Sudbury-based Amor Interiors. A partnership with Bang and Olufsen provides integrated audio systems throughout the property.
The refurbished restaurant introduces a new British brasserie-style menu, with à la carte dishes, daily specials and afternoon teas served throughout the week. The kitchens have been fitted with new catering equipment to support the expanded dining offer.
Two new meeting rooms – The Oak Room and The Gallery – provide space for up to 24 and 16 guests respectively, aimed at business events and private functions.
Suki Dulai, chief executive of Flying Trade Group, the partner company of Surya Hotels, said: “Great Hallingbury is a stunning spot in the Essex countryside with superb links to London and Stansted. We are delighted to unveil this beautiful transformation, which combines modern comforts with designer flair, while preserving the charm and character of the original building.”
