Whatley Manor has achieved EarthCheck Silver certification for the fourth consecutive year, recognising the hotel’s performance across energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management and community impact.
The Wiltshire hotel has been working with carbon accounting firm Greenly since 2022 to measure its emissions across Scope 1, 2 and 3, providing a comprehensive assessment of its environmental footprint.
In 2024, Whatley Manor recorded 907 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions – a 14% reduction on the previous year.
The hotel has also retired 1,000 verified carbon credits from the San Jerónimo Coatlán project in Oaxaca, Mexico, which protects endangered cloud forests, supports biodiversity and provides sustainable livelihoods for local Zapotec communities.
EarthCheck is an internationally recognised benchmarking and certification programme for the travel and tourism industry, accredited by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
Magaly Etter, ESG manager at Whatley Manor, said: “Sustainability is at the heart of our operations, from efficient energy and water use to support meaningful climate action. The EarthCheck Silver certification and our investment in carbon credits represent more than a milestone – they reflect our long-term responsibility to the planet and the communities we serve.”
Alexis Normand, chief executive of Greenly, added: “We remain impressed with Whatley Manor’s continued commitment to reducing the footprint of the hospitality sector, at a time when the sector accounts for nearly a sixth of Britain’s greenhouse gas emissions. Their progress remains a strong endorsement of Greenly’s data-driven approach.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
