NYX Hotels opens first Scottish property in Edinburgh

NYX Hotels has opened its first Scottish property, a 125-room hotel in Edinburgh, following a £60m investment.

Located on Jeffrey Street near the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Waverley station, the hotel includes the Clash Bar and Restaurant, which offers all-day dining and weekly live DJ sessions.

It expands the existing Leonardo Royal Hotel site and has created 60 jobs. The opening marks NYX Hotels’ fifth property in the UK and Ireland and its latest expansion across Europe.

The lifestyle brand, owned by Leonardo Hotels, has properties in London, Dublin, Berlin and Ibiza.

Simone Villari, hotel manager at NYX Hotel Edinburgh, said: “Edinburgh has always thrived on art, music and culture. With NYX Hotel Edinburgh, our ambition is to capture that spirit and create a hotel that feels bold, vibrant and uniquely Scottish.”

Jason Carruthers, managing director of Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland, said: “The opening of NYX Hotel Edinburgh marks an important milestone for us as our fifth hotel in the city and our first NYX Hotel in Scotland. This has been a complex and ambitious project, transforming and expanding an existing site to create something truly special.”

News Analysis

NYX Hotels has opened its first Scottish property, a 125-room hotel in Edinburgh, following a £60m investment. This expansion signals the brand’s growing footprint in the UK, where it now operates five hotels across the region, following its first UK property launch in London in May 2021.

The new hotel, located on Jeffrey Street near the Royal Mile, includes a bar and restaurant offering all-day dining and entertainment, thus incorporating the vibrant cultural scene of Edinburgh. The addition of 60 jobs indicates a broader aim to engage with the local community, which mirrors similar efforts by other recent hotel openings, such as the W Hotels site in St. James Quarter that focuses on luxury and local flavours.

Simone Villari, the hotel’s manager, emphasised the intention to blend Scottish culture with the hotel experience. This aligns with the strategic direction of their parent company, and Jason Carruthers, managing director of Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland, characterized this opening as an ambitious project aiming to redefine their market approach in Edinburgh.

The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
