Kurt Macher, general manager of Shangri-La The Shard, London, has announced his departure from the role following seven years with the business.
Macher joined the hotel in 2019, following his role at Chengdu, China, where he held a leadership role at Temple House, part of the Swire Hotels collection. He has acquired extensive senior management experience, having held roles across leading hospitality brands including Wharf Hotels, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and The Peninsula Group.
Announcing his departure on Linkedin, Macher said: “The past seven years have been some of the most rewarding of my career. Together, we’ve navigated challenges, celebrated successes and built something truly special.
“What I will value most are the people. Your passion, resilience and commitment made every achievement possible.”
Macher has not yet shared details of his next move, though he wrote: “I’m excited for what’s ahead – stay tuned for what’s next.”
He is succeeded by Jean Louis Fresta, who steps into the position of acting general manager after being promoted from resident manager.
Commenting on his promotion on Linkedin, Fresta said: “It is a privilege to lead this remarkable hotel alongside such a talented and passionate team. I’m looking forward to building on everything we’ve achieved together as we continue creating exceptional experiences for our guests and shaping the next chapter.”
Shangri-La The Shard opened in 2014, forming part of Shangri-La Group’s global portfolio of more than 100 hotels.
