Marriott International has signed an agreement with Egyptian developers Misr Italia Properties and People and Places to build nine properties across Egypt.
The project will add more than 1,500 hotel rooms and branded residences across coastal and urban locations, including Ras Al Hekma, West Cairo, East Cairo and Ain Sokhna.
Under the agreement, the development pipeline features brands including The Ritz-Carlton, The Luxury Collection and Autograph Collection. Misr Italia Properties and People and Places plan to invest EGP 56.7bn (£844m), aiming to create approximately 6,000 direct and indirect jobs and accommodate 373,000 tourists annually.
Specific developments include a 170-room Ritz-Carlton hotel and 268 residences in Ras Al Hekma, alongside an Autograph Collection hotel and residences in the same region. Additional hotel and residential sites are planned for Sphinx City in West Cairo, Kai Sokhna on the Red Sea and Garden 8 in East Cairo.
The announcement builds on a 2022 deal between Marriott International and Misr Italia Properties for developments in Cairo – including the New Administrative Capital – with the joint portfolio targeted to reach 50 hospitality assets by 2037.
Shady Hassan, VP of development for North Africa at Marriott International, said: “Egypt remains a strategic growth market for Marriott underpinned by strong tourism fundamentals, expanding infrastructure and increasing demand for premium hospitality and branded residential experiences.”
Mohamed Khaled El Assal, chief executive of Misr Italia Properties and founder of People and Places, added: “Our vision extends even further, as we continue building a diversified hospitality platform that will shape the future of tourism and lifestyle destinations in Egypt.”
