The Queens Hotel Leeds appoints Bob Fairweather as GM

The Queens Hotel Leeds has appointed Bob Fairweather as its new general manager, bringing more than two decades of operational and commercial hospitality experience to the landmark property.

Fairweather joined the hotel in March 2026 from LGH Hotels, where he served as regional general manager based at The Queen at Chester, overseeing a portfolio of hotels across Liverpool, Preston and Wrexham. He has previously held senior leadership roles including dual-site general manager at Crowne Plaza Manchester City Centre and Holiday Inn Express Manchester City Centre, as well as general manager at Marriott Manchester Airport.

In his new role, Fairweather will focus on enhancing the hotel’s guest experience while strengthening its position in the business, leisure, meetings and events markets. He will also oversee a number of planned investments, including upgraded colleague facilities and the creation of a new café bar.

The 232-bedroom hotel underwent a £16m refurbishment in 2021 and is owned by Swedish hotel investor Pandox, operating under Axiom Hospitality.

Fairweather said: “I am honoured to be joining The Queens Hotel team. The hotel combines a rich heritage dating back to 1937 with a modern, guest-focused approach to hospitality, making it one of Leeds’ most iconic and distinctive hotels.

“My priority is to support and develop our talented team so we can continue delivering exceptional experiences for every guest. We also have a number of exciting projects planned across the hotel, including investment in colleague facilities and the creation of a new café bar. I look forward to building on The Queens’ strong reputation and ensuring it remains a destination of choice for both local residents and visitors.”

Suzanne Bush, operations director at Axiom Hospitality, said: “We are excited to welcome Bob to The Queens. He brings an outstanding track record of leading high-performing teams and delivering exceptional guest experiences across a variety of hotels. Bob’s passion for hospitality and his strategic approach make him the ideal person to lead The Queens into its next chapter.”

Pandox has ended the management continuity it inherited

News Analysis

Today’s handover returns The Queens to the kind of transition for which it last recruited a general manager. QHotels appointed Alistair Campbell as general manager in February 2021 as a wholesale renovation began, giving him responsibility for reopening the building and turning its ground floor into a social hub. That older appointment matters because Fairweather’s proposed café bar extends the same public-space strategy into the next management tenure.

The ownership changed before the leadership did. Pandox acquired the hotel for £53m in 2023, then kept Campbell in post while Axiom operated the property and The Queens retained its independent identity. Campbell subsequently fronted the new branding, so Pandox used the incumbent manager to carry the hotel through its first repositioning. Fairweather’s arrival ends the personnel continuity that connected Aprirose’s renovation to Pandox’s relaunch.

That continuity also left a measurable operating obligation. Campbell set a May 2024 deadline for two environmental accreditations after creating a Green Team and outlining changes to energy use, lighting and menus. The hotel secured Green Key accreditation in October 2025, alongside Green Tourism Gold and Green Meetings Gold. The missed timetable matters because Fairweather inherits a sustainability programme that has moved from policy into audited daily practice. The team had met 13 environmental-management criteria by then.
