Murray Scott has been appointed general manager of The Standard, London, joining from The Hoxton where he oversaw two of the group’s London properties.
Scott previously served as general manager at The Hoxton Holborn and The Hoxton Shoreditch, following senior leadership roles at NH Hotel Group, Bankside Autograph Collection, London Marriott Grosvenor Square, Park Tower Knightsbridge and Sheraton Grand Edinburgh.
He began his career working in housekeeping and front office roles before moving into senior hotel operations and management positions.
Scott said: “Joining The Standard, London is an incredible opportunity and one I feel genuinely proud to be taking on. Throughout my career, I’ve always believed that the best hotels are built by great people who bring a great culture to guest experiences, and this is something The Standard, London does exceptionally well.
“The hotel has established itself as one of London’s most exciting and distinctive destinations, with an incredibly talented team and an approach to hospitality that’s both creative and authentic. I’m looking forward to working alongside the team to build on that success, and to continue delivering a culture-first approach.”
Elli Jafari, global head of guest experience and performance at Hyatt Lifestyle Group, added: “The Standard, London has always challenged convention and celebrated individuality, and Murray’s collaborative leadership style and operational expertise will help ensure we continue to evolve while staying true to what makes the hotel so special. We are excited to have him leading the team into its next chapter.”
News Analysis
The leadership chain behind Scott’s appointment starts before the hotel opened because Elli Jafari built the original operation. She joined as general manager in August 2018, then led the King’s Cross property through its July 2019 launch and pandemic closures. The Standard promoted Jafari to managing director in 2021, preserving operational continuity after the disruption. That long tenure is the benchmark for a successor entering after ownership changed above the hotel.
That continuity then met two transactions within weeks. Hyatt completed its purchase of Standard International in October 2024, taking control of the brand, while Trinity Investments, Oaktree and Partners Group acquired the London hotel the following month. Scott therefore takes the operating post inside a layered arrangement: one group owns the flag and distribution system, another consortium owns the property, and the hotel’s former general manager carries institutional knowledge into Hyatt’s lifestyle organisation.
The management chain above the hotel changed alongside ownership, leaving its new general manager to work through a structure assembled after the opening regime. Amber Asher stepped down after Hyatt’s acquisition in January 2025, having moved from general counsel to president and then chief executive during the group’s expansion. She left Standard International after it had reached 25 hotels, increased revenue by 400% and achieved profitability.
