Whitbread has topped out its second Premier Inn in Brighton, a 187-bedroom hotel on West Street scheduled to open in 2028.
The structural frame of the 187-bedroom hotel on West Street has been completed, marking the latest stage in a project that began in October 2025.
Whitbread, which owns Premier Inn, is developing the hotel after acquiring the site from a private developer. Representatives from Whitbread and contractor Gilbert Ash marked the completion of the structural frame on Tuesday 25 August.
The hotel is due to open under the name Premier Inn Brighton City Centre (Seafront). It will include the latest Premier Inn bedroom format, alongside Premier Plus rooms, with a restaurant on the ground floor. The site, which is on West Street, was formerly occupied by a nightclub. Whitbread said the hotel is expected to employ around 40 people.
For Whitbread, the project is part of its wider expansion of Premier Inn in city centres where it says demand for hotel rooms remains strong. With the frame now complete, work on the West Street building can move into the next phase ahead of its planned opening in 2028.
Simon Lancaster, head of construction for London and the south at Whitbread, said: “It is always a proud moment topping out a new Premier Inn hotel and it is especially significant at a location as prominent as West Street in Brighton. Completing the frame brings us another step closer to delivering a flagship new Premier Inn for the city.
“Brighton West Street demonstrates the capability of Whitbread to continue to grow Premier Inn in some brilliant but complex city-centre locations. It reflects the deep experience we bring to development projects and the depth of our relationships with Gilbert Ash. The hotel will occupy one of Brighton’s historic hospitality locations and will become an important addition to the city’s visitor economy when it opens.”
