Constellation Hotels has appointed Neil Jacobs to lead a newly created luxury hospitality management business, as the company prepares to build an international collection of hotels, resorts and residences.
Jacobs will serve as chief executive of the new business, which will be built around Constellation’s existing London portfolio of The Connaught, The Berkeley and The Emory.
He brings extensive experience across the luxury hospitality sector, having served as chief executive of Six Senses, where he helped expand the business from eight to 27 properties, alongside a pipeline of more than 30 additional projects.
Jacobs previously held senior positions at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and Starwood Capital Group, the company said. He is also the founder of creative advisory collective Wild Origins.
The wider collection is expected to include the forthcoming Saint-Germain hotel in Paris, a development in Marrakech and Hackwood Park, an English country estate. The new collection is expected to launch later this year, while the individual hotels will retain their existing names and identities.
The new operating company will eventually take over management of the London properties once existing management arrangements conclude. Constellation Hotels will retain ownership of the properties and responsibility for investment and portfolio strategy.
Jacobs said: “We’re in the rare position of forming a new international collection with The Connaught, The Berkeley and The Emory as its foundations. Each has a distinct identity and loyal following. As hospitality and residential communities increasingly overlap, there is an opportunity to create a richer and more connected way of experiencing them. From these distinctive foundations, we’re crafting a forward-looking global collection, defined by quality, warmth and a genuine sense of joy.”
Gianluca Muzzi, chief executive of Constellation Hotels, said: “Constellation’s ambition is to be a thoughtful, long-term steward of our exceptional portfolio of hotels. Establishing our own hospitality management business is an important step in that strategy, giving us the capability to invest in the properties themselves, as well as in the brand, people and operating platform that will support their enduring success.
“Neil has an innate sense of ‘what’s next’ in our industry and has spent his career defining distinctive luxury hospitality businesses with global relevance. His experience, imagination and deep understanding of the modern luxury traveller make him uniquely suited to honour this incredible legacy and shape the next chapter.”
Carine Bonnejean, managing director, Hotels and International at Christie and Co told Hotel Owner: “This is an interesting move and another sign of the continued evolution of the luxury hospitality sector globally.
“Owners are increasingly looking for flexible management solutions that combine brand strength with a more owner-focused operating model. Neil’s experience should position Constellation well in this space. This is a good example of the growing trend of owners seeking greater control over luxury hotel management platforms rather than relying solely on the major global brands.”
