Imperial Hotel Bloomsbury reopens following decade-long renovation

The Imperial Hotel in Bloomsbury has reopened following a decade-long redevelopment, unveiling a redesigned property positioned as the flagship hotel of Imperial London Hotels.

The 357-room hotel, located overlooking Russell Square, has undergone a major transformation aimed at combining its architectural heritage with contemporary hospitality. The reopening marks the next phase of growth for the hotel, and one of London’s most significant hotel refurbishments in recent years.

The original Imperial Hotel opened in 1905 and was demolished in 1966, with the current modernist building constructed on the site in 1970. The latest refurbishment has retained elements of the building’s architectural identity while introducing new guest facilities and redesigned public spaces.

The redeveloped hotel includes 357 guest rooms and suites, alongside a rooftop bar and restaurant on the 10th floor. Other additions include a ground-floor restaurant and lounge, a gym and wellness terrace, as well as outdoor spaces attached to selected rooms and suites.

Imperial London Hotels has placed a particular focus on sustainability throughout the redevelopment, with surplus furniture and materials from the previous hotel donated and reused through a partnership with Clean Conscience rather than being sent to waste.

The redevelopment forms part of a wider strategy to reposition The Imperial as a lifestyle-led destination in central London, combining accommodation with dining, wellness and social spaces.

The opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Cherie Anne Stephenson. Having joined as a receptionist in 1981, Stephenson progressed to a group-wide position in Central Reservations and has seen each part of the renovation come to life first-hand.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
