NoMad London, the luxury hotel in Covent Garden, has appointed John Sutherland as general manager, succeeding Serena Lightner, who has held the position since March 2025.
Sutherland joins the hotel from Park Hyatt London River Thames, where he has served as director of sales and marketing since May 2024. The appointment marks a return to NoMad, having previously held the role of director of sales at the hotel in 2020.
Sutherland announced his appointment in a Linkedin post and said he was “deeply honoured” to be returning as general manager.
He added: “Returning now feels both meaningful and wonderfully familiar. NoMad has always been more than a hotel. It is a gathering place for locals and travellers, artists and storytellers. A home defined by culture, curiosity, craftsmanship and genuine connection. Above all, it is brought to life by some of the most talented and passionate people I have ever had the privilege to work alongside.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return to the NoMad family and to help write the next chapter of this remarkable hotel and brand.”
The NoMad brand was originally launched in 2012 by hospitality company Sydell Group, founded by Ron Burkle and Andrew Zobler.
In 2024, Hilton acquired a majority controlling stake in the Sydell Group, adding NoMad hotels to its portfolio. The first property, which has since closed, opened in New York. The opening of Nomad London in 2021 marked the brand’s move into the European market.
