Sopwell House completes refurbishment of Hertfordshire suites

Sopwell House has unveiled 16 refurbished Mews Suites following a redesign of the gated courtyard accommodation at the Hertfordshire hotel and spa.

Interior design agency Sparcstudio updated the suites using a neutral colour palette with blue and terracotta accents. The updated layout includes feature fireplace walls with architectural panelling, hemp-inspired wallcoverings, wool loop carpets and bespoke woven fabrics.

Four-poster suites feature pale blue and taupe tones with wood-grain wallcoverings, alongside red piping on soft furnishings and abstract landscape murals in circulation spaces. Environmental details include paints rated as climate positive and rugs woven from recycled PET yarn made from plastic bottles.

Select units in the gated courtyard include private terraces and hot tubs. The work is part of an ongoing capital investment scheme across the estate.

Giammario Ragnoli, general manager of Sopwell House, said: “The refurbishment represents the latest stage in our continued investment in Sopwell House and ensures the Mews Suites offer an experience that reflects the quality and individuality of the wider estate.

“Sparcstudio has evolved the interiors beautifully while retaining the sense of privacy and character that makes this part of the hotel so distinctive.”

Beverley Bayes, co-founder and creative director at Sparcstudio, added: “Having worked extensively across Sopwell House, it was important that the Mews Suites felt part of the wider property while retaining their own sense of identity.

“Our vision was to introduce a more contemporary expression of quiet luxury using layering and texture to create spaces that feel both elevated and comfortable.”

News Analysis

The context for the latest suites lies in Sopwell House’s piecemeal renewal of its premium offer. In May 2024, the Bejerano family’s AB Hotels invested £1m in launching the Corner Suites. The six-room addition paired larger accommodation with covered balconies and access to The Club at Cottonmill, concentrating the spend on the property’s highest room category and establishing the phased method that the latest work continues.

That room-led investment then moved into food and beverage. Sopwell House reopened The Brasserie after refurbishment in March 2025, with executive chef Gopi Chandran and brasserie head chef Marilena Ungureanu recasting the menu around seasonal British dishes as the dining room received its own redesign. The sequence reveals a tightly parcelled capital programme: AB Hotels has treated rooms and dining as separate projects, each carrying its own relaunch.

From there, the hotel turned operational practice into a marketable standard. In February 2026, EarthCheck awarded Sopwell House its Silver Benchmark after assessing energy, water and waste management; the hotel paired that process with a 0% landfill policy. Its ESG and Green Team groups oversee staff training and procurement, while coffee grounds and tea leaves from the hotel’s outlets go back into its gardens as fertiliser.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
