Voco Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow has revealed that its concierge Mark Williams has been accepted into Les Clefs d’Or, placing him within an elite global network of hospitality professionals.
Williams secured the membership following a panel interview with five organisation members. Having worked at the hotel for eight years, Williams was assessed on his industry knowledge and professional experience.
Williams is responsible for coordinating travel, managing logistics and fulfilling guest requests at the city centre hotel. He was also previously named ‘Scottish Concierge of the Year’ at the Prestige Hotel Awards in 2023.
His daily duties have included arranging a horse-drawn carriage for an anniversary and managing high-profile international delegates during the COP26 summit.
According to area general manager Marcello Ventisei, Williams regularly goes “above and beyond”, recalling a time when he travelled to Edinburgh to deliver a forgotten passport.
Williams said: “One of the questions I was asked during the interview was whether I had represented the hotel externally, which gave me the opportunity to speak about the scholarship I received from HIT Scotland. In 2023, I spent two days at The Dorchester in London, gaining valuable insight into how a luxury five-star hotel operates.
“I’m absolutely delighted to become a member of such a prestigious organisation. The Society is recognised worldwide, with approximately 3,000 members across 80 countries. One of the greatest benefits is the strength of the network. That reach is incredibly valuable.”
Ventisei added: “Mark is a real asset to our team, a true ambassador not just of the hotel, but also of Glasgow and we’re delighted to see him receive such a prestigious honour.”
