Whitbread appoints Mark Allan as non-executive director

Whitbread has appointed Land Securities chief executive Mark Allan as an independent non-executive director, effective from 1 October 2026.

Allan, who is chief executive of Land Securities Group, will also join the company’s Audit Committee and Nomination Committee when he takes up the role.

He has led Land Securities since April 2020 and previously served as chief executive of St Modwen Properties. Before that, he spent 14 years at Unite Group, including a decade as chief executive, where he oversaw the company’s growth into one of the UK’s largest student accommodation providers. He began his career at KPMG, qualifying as a chartered accountant.

The appointment follows Whitbread’s recent announcement that Kal Atwal will join the board as an independent non-executive director from 1 September 2026. Whitbread also confirmed that Horst Baier will step down from the board and the Audit Committee on 1 October, having served as a non-executive director since November 2019.

Christine Hodgson, chair of Whitbread, said: “We are delighted to welcome Mark to the Board. He brings a wealth of leadership experience from the property sector, and his strategic insight, capital allocation experience and public markets background will further strengthen the Board as we continue to execute our strategic priorities and deliver against our New Five-Year Plan.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Horst for his significant contribution during his tenure, including his period as interim Audit Committee chair. His insight, judgement and constructive challenge have been highly valued and he has made an important contribution to the board’s effectiveness and governance. We wish him every success for the future.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
