UK hospitality group Eight Continents Hotels and Resorts has acquired La Barbarie Hotel in Guernsey for around £6.25m.
The four-star hotel, located in the parish of St Martin, had been owned by the same family for nearly 40 years.
Once a 16th-Century priory, La Barbarie features 38 air-conditioned en-suite rooms, a heated outdoor swimming pool and a 74-cover restaurant recognised with an AA Rosette.
The property was sold for the first time in that period to Eight Continents, a group with a growing international presence across India and Africa, led by founder and chief executive Haninder Sachdeva.
Sachdeva said: “Guernsey is an exceptional destination, and La Barbarie is a hotel with a remarkable legacy. We are excited to continue the excellent work of the previous owners, build on its success, and enhance the experience for both leisure and corporate guests.”
Julian Troup, head of UK hotels agency at Colliers, said: “This sale highlights the enduring appeal of Guernsey as a destination for investors and operators alike. La Barbarie is a superb example of a hotel that combines strong trading performance with significant growth potential.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
