Whitbread has appointed Stuart Hookins as estates director for the UK and Ireland, as the Premier Inn owner continues to deliver its long-term property strategy and progress plans to recycle £1.5bn of freehold property by FY 31.
Hookins joins the hospitality group from Royal Mail Group, where he served as group property director and oversaw an estate of more than 1,800 properties. He succeeds Simon Hobbs, who will retire on 1 September after nearly 20 years with the business.
In his new role, Hookins will oversee one of the UK’s largest hospitality property portfolios, comprising more than 845 Premier Inn hotels and over 86,000 trading bedrooms across the UK and Ireland.
His appointment comes as Whitbread continues to unlock value from its predominantly freehold estate under its five-year plan, announced in April, which includes recycling £1.5bn of property assets while supporting the continued expansion of Premier Inn through redevelopment, asset intensification and active portfolio management.
Before joining Royal Mail, Hookins spent 17 years at The Co-op Group, where he held a number of senior property positions before becoming managing director of property.
