Fat Badger Group returns to BWH Hotels with seven Yorkshire properties

Fat Badger Group has announced its return to BWH Hotels GB with seven Yorkshire properties, following significant investment across its hotel estate.

The hotels are due to launch under BWH Hotels’ premium BW Premier Collection and BW Signature Collection brands. The partnership will give Fat Badger access to BWH Hotels’ global distribution, loyalty programme, sales network and commercial expertise while allowing the properties to retain their individual identities.

The seven properties joining the portfolio are Royal Whitby, The Yorkshire, White Hart Hotel and Apartments, Hotel Clementine in Harrogate, The Fat Badger York, Guy Fawkes Inn in York and Black Horse Inn in Kirkby Fleetham.

The Guy Fawkes Inn has recently undergone around £3.5m of investment, including the acquisition and conversion of a neighbouring Grade I-listed building. The project added 27 bedrooms, which opened this summer and brought Fat Badger Group’s total number of rooms to 411.

Meanwhile, Royal Whitby has also expanded following investment in the property. The hotel’s average daily rate has more than tripled since Fat Badger took it on in 2024, following what the group described as a record-breaking summer.

Further investment is planned across the estate. At the Black Horse Inn, the group is planning a development incorporating a farmhouse, village farm shop and 24 luxury lodges around the property’s lakes.

The partnership comes as the cost of acquiring hotel customers through online channels continues to rise. Fat Badger said it wants to build on the momentum across its hotels, including room rates, while introducing the properties to new international audiences.

Additionally, the group will have access to BWH Hotels GB’s sales and marketing support, revenue expertise and industry insights, while its specialist venues desk will support corporate, meetings and events business.

BWH Hotels GB said it has added 411 bedrooms to its portfolio through the latest signings, taking the total number of new bedrooms signed over the past 12 months to 702.

Simon Cotton, managing director at Fat Badger Group, said: “Coming back to BWH Hotels GB is part of that next stage for us. We know the group and what it can bring to an independent operator, and the value of that distribution and commercial reach makes even more sense to us now.”

Tim Rumney, chief executive of BWH Hotels GB, said: “Fat Badger Group is a fantastic addition to our premium portfolio as we continue to grow our presence in this market. These are established properties with strong identities and local reputations. They don’t need us to tell them who they are. They need the reach, insight and commercial support to help more customers discover them and support their next phase of growth.

“Fat Badger knows our model and has chosen to return at an important stage in its growth. That’s a strong endorsement of the value we offer independent hoteliers, putting the commercial engine behind great hotels while allowing them to retain what makes them unique.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
