HOSPA acquires hotel marketing conference to expand events portfolio

The Hospitality Professionals Association (HOSPA) has announced the acquisition of the National Hotel Marketing Conference from Martin Evans of The Tourism Business to expand its industry events programme.

The trade association will take over the event immediately, adding it alongside its existing work with the Hotel Marketing Association. The conference has run for more than nine years, bringing together hotel marketers and commercial professionals across the sector.

According to HOSPA, the event will retain its established structure while expanding to cover changes in digital innovation and guest behaviour. The next National Hotel Marketing Conference will take place on 27 May 2027 at the Hilton at St George’s Park.

Jane Pendlebury, chief executive of HOSPA, said: “The National Hotel Marketing Conference is a very natural fit for HOSPA and, in particular, the work we already do alongside the Hotel Marketing Association. It gives us another valuable platform through which we can bring marketing professionals together and strengthen the community around this important area of hospitality.

“Martin has spent more than 20 years building the conference into a respected and well-established event, and we are very conscious of the legacy that comes with that. Our intention is to build on what already works, while listening carefully to members and delegates about what they want from the conference in the years ahead.”

Evans added: “Building the National Hotel Marketing Conference over the past two decades has been an incredibly rewarding journey and I am proud of the community that has developed around it.

“Hotel marketing has changed enormously during that time and continues to evolve at pace, so this feels like the right moment for HOSPA to take the conference forward. Its network and industry knowledge, alongside its work with the HMA, make it very well placed to build on what we have created and ensure the conference continues to support hotel marketers for many years to come.”

HOSPA has spent years drawing marketing into its events

News Analysis

The acquisition formalises a marketing strand HOSPA had already been drawing into its own programme. The earliest clear precedent came in September 2017, when HMA chairman Steve Lowy joined HOSPACE’s OTA panel, placing marketing distribution inside a conference whose programme then centred on finance, revenue and IT. That long reach matters because HOSPA was using HMA expertise at its flagship event well before the two bodies started describing a closer institutional relationship.

That informal overlap became structural in November 2024, when HMA recast its leadership around HOSPA: Andrew Farrow took responsibility for managing the relationship and representing HMA on the HOSPA board, while the association promised a larger role in HOSPA events. HOSPA is therefore buying control of an established gathering after first integrating the professional body around it. The purchase extends a governance decision already made rather than opening a fresh line of activity.

That integration had reached the conference itself by May 2025. At Hilton St George’s Park, Evans served both as an HMA committee member and the organiser, and used the conference to unveil the Hotel Marketing Awards shortlist. The event was already functioning as HMA’s educational stage while HOSPA supplied the association’s organisational home. That left the event’s ownership as the remaining separate element; Evans called that edition the conference’s biggest yet.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
