Capella Hotel Group appoints regional GM for Southeast Asia

Capella Hotel Group has announced the appointment of Christian Westbeld as regional general manager for Southeast Asia to oversee its properties in Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Westbeld takes immediate charge of Capella Singapore, the brand’s 30-acre flagship property on Sentosa Island, alongside hotels in Ubud and Hanoi.

The German national holds 25 years of hospitality experience across four continents, including food and beverage roles in Dubai and Beijing.

He previously worked for MGM China before spending seven years as general manager and managing director at Raffles Singapore. During his tenure at the heritage hotel, Westbeld managed its major restoration project.

Capella Singapore comprises 113 rooms, 10 private manors, 81 serviced residences and several F& destinations.

The site features colonial buildings from the 19th Century integrated with modern architecture designed by Foster and Partners.

Roland Fasel, president of Capella Hotel Group, said: “Christian brings a valuable combination of market knowledge, operational rigour and a deep understanding of the Capella brand. His roots in the Singapore market run deep, and the relationships he’s built across the industry are a true asset.”

News Analysis

The recent appointment of a regional general manager for Southeast Asia by Capella Hotel Group aligns with its broader strategy of enhancing leadership across its Asian properties. In September 2025, Capella appointed four general managers in its Asian portfolio, which included the notable hire of Paul Jackson to oversee operations at Capella Singapore. This move aimed to strengthen the company’s leadership as luxury travel demand evolves in the region, thereby reflecting an ongoing commitment to operational excellence and brand integrity highlighted by recent appointments.

This appointment echoes a trend initiated with Christian Jaquier’s leadership at Capella Ubud, announced in August 2025, as part of Capella’s efforts to maintain high service standards and innovative guest experiences. Jaquier’s extensive experience showcases the group’s commitment to operational excellence in luxury hospitality amidst the backdrop of rising travel demand following his assumption of the role.

With Roland Fasel’s announcement as the new president of Capella Hotel Group in March 2026, pledging to expand the group’s portfolio significantly by 2030, the recent appointment fits into a larger narrative of Capella’s growth and focus on strategic leadership. This overarching goal of doubling the portfolio suggests a proactive approach as the hotel group establishes its presence and competitive position in new markets, including Southeast Asia within the context of a long-term expansion plan.

The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
