Careys Manor Hotel and SenSpa in the New Forest are set to open a new contemporary Indian restaurant led by chef and TV personality Surjan Singh, known as Chef Jolly.
Kasi is set to open this October, and will be Singh’s first restaurant outside of London, following the success of The Great Indian in Finsbury Park and his dining indian projects across Singapore, Doha, Maldives and Cunard cuisine liner The Queen Anne.
The 4,349 sq ft venue will accommodate 85 diners, with additional seating on an outdoor terrace. The menu will include an a la carte offering, a traditional thali lunch and three and five-course tasting menus, with optional wine and cocktail pairings.
Signature dishes will include Hampshire lamb parantha, banana leaf roasted Rivers Test and Itchen trout with coriander-garlic curry leaf butter, roasted Wessex saddleback pork belly with buttered pao buns and paneer lotus kofta with sundried mint and fennel. The menu will also include traditional tandoori dishes, biryanis, lentils and breads.
Singh said: “The food at Kasi will tell the story of the Ganges through the ingredients, flavours and cooking traditions found along its banks. At the same time, it will be firmly connected to its home in the New Forest, making the most of the exceptional produce available locally and across the British Isles.
“Careys Manor shares my belief that memorable restaurants are built around warmth, generosity and a real sense of place. I am excited to bring those ideas together at Kasi and to create a restaurant that feels equally welcoming to hotel guests, locals and those travelling to the New Forest especially to eat with us.”
Steve Woodrow, general manager of Careys Manor Hotel and SenSpa, said: “Kasi represents an exciting new chapter for Careys Manor. Chef Jolly’s vision and reputation for exceptional Indian cuisine make him the ideal partner as we continue to evolve our dining offering. Kasi will bring a distinctive new experience to both our hotel guests and the local community, further establishing Careys Manor as a destination for outstanding food, as well as exceptional hospitality.”
Nicola Carass, chief executive officer of The New Forest CIC, told Hotel Owner: “The opening of Kasi is a really exciting addition to the New Forest’s food scene. Having a chef of Surjan Singh’s calibre choosing to bring something new and distinctive to the area speaks volumes about the New Forest as a destination for food and hospitality.
“Restaurants are an increasingly important part of why people choose to visit the New Forest. A great dining experience can be the reason someone books an overnight stay, extends a trip or explores somewhere they might not otherwise have visited – and that spend then reaches accommodation providers, shops, attractions and other businesses across the area.”
