Samantha Dunion, the general manager of the Hotel Indigo venues in Coventry and Stratford-upon-Avon, has been appointed vice chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire Hotel and Venue Network.
Dunion has 35 years of hospitality experience, having held senior positions across the UK before taking the role with the regional hotels association.
The network aims to provide opportunities to share best practice, discuss industry challenges and encourage collaborative working to boost regional business. Faris Thowfeek, general manager of the Ibis Hotel Coventry Centre, chairs the group.
The body was formed by the Coventry and Warwickshire Convention Bureau, which launched in 2025 as part of destination management organisation Destination Coventry. The non-profit organisation assists venues with leads and helps event organisers plan business functions.
Paul McMahon, managing director of Destination Coventry, said the organisation approached Dunion to secure leading industry figures to work towards shared regional goals. He noted that the regional hospitality sector faces challenging times, but the association aims to overcome barriers and promote growth.
Dunion said: “I am really pleased to take on this role because I think it’s important for us, as an industry, to work together across the region. Being the GM of both Stratford-upon-Avon and Coventry Indigo gives me a really interesting perspective because they are very different hotel markets.
“I want to support general managers, their teams and the wider destination and to encourage collaboration. Hotels may not always benefit directly from every piece of business, but when the region succeeds, there is a positive knock-on effect for everyone.”
Thowfeek added: “It’s great to have someone with Dunion’s knowledge and experience on board as vice-chair. The association is really starting to gain traction across the region and we look forward to bringing everyone together again at our next event.”
News Analysis
Today’s leadership pairing rests on two different kinds of local tenure. Faris Thowfeek took charge of Ibis Coventry Centre in December 2018 after managing Ibis properties in Newport and Birmingham; the long reach matters because he has stayed with the same Coventry hotel while the newer body changed office-holders. Castlebridge later named Michael Lyons to launch Hotel Indigo Coventry. The property opened in January 2024, making Lyons one of Coventry’s newest hotel operators when the network took shape.
Lyons’s remit widened before that body convened. He moved into a Castlebridge cluster role by September 2025, and in November he chaired the inaugural meeting, where more than 30 representatives agreed to develop market-share data, coordinate around major events and test collective buying. The bureau supplied the platform, while a hotel general manager led an agenda built around profitability and new business.
That Hotel Indigo seat survived the change of personnel. By June 2026, Dunion was cluster general manager and made the Coventry hotel’s senior appointments, placing her in the same operational tier Lyons had occupied when he led the network. Her new vice-chairmanship preserves Hotel Indigo Coventry’s representation after the chair passed to Thowfeek. The network’s leadership now joins a long-serving Ibis operator to the cluster manager representing Hotel Indigo Coventry.
