The Lysses House Hotel in Fareham, Hampshire, has been sold to a local investor for £1.5m, marking the first change of ownership for the Grade II listed hotel in 40 years.
The Georgian hotel comprises 21 en-suite bedrooms, a bar, the Richmond Restaurant and an external sun terrace overlooking landscaped gardens. The Richmond Restaurant can accommodate up to 60 guests, while its terrace provides seating for 30. Meanwhile, The Hampshire Suite has capacity for up to 100 people and is used for functions including weddings, group meals and parties. Three further function suites provide additional space for meetings and hospitality events.
Located on Fareham High Street, the hotel is within reach of Southampton and Portsmouth and has connections to London, the South East and South West via the M27, A3 and M3.
Colin Mercer has owned and operated the hotel since 1986. During his ownership, the hotel underwent upgrades to its facilities and expanded its services.
Mercer has now retired from the business, with the new owner planning to expand their existing hospitality portfolio. Christie and Co managed the sale process, with Ed Bellfield, regional director of hotels at the firm, overseeing the transaction.
Mercer said: “We bought the hotel 40 years ago and have enjoyed working in this beautiful location. The business has brought us significant repeat patronage from both private and group business throughout our tenure.
“I have decided to retire and to hand over the successful business to a new owner to take to the next level. We are deeply grateful to our dedicated staff, past and present, for their unwavering support throughout the years. We would also like to thank our guests for your loyalty, friendship and support over the years. It has been an incredible privilege to welcome so many wonderful guests and to be part of your holidays, celebrations and memories.”
Bellfield added: “The sale of the Lysses House Hotel represented an exceptional opportunity for new owners to continue the hotel’s success. The hotel business benefits from significant repeat patronage and the outstanding reputation of the business is a testament to the continued re-investment and stewardship over recent decades.
