News Analysis
In May 2026, IHG reported a significant growth in its RevPAR, with Greater China seeing the strongest increase at 5.7%. This performance was attributed to a surge in group and business travel, which aligns with IHG’s strategic expansion in the region as they signed 163 hotels in a single quarter. This momentum underscores the importance of Greater China in IHG’s overall growth strategy, which has consistently seen robust demand, as noted in previous reports where the region rebounded rapidly post-pandemic, suggesting ongoing opportunities within this market. IHG global RevPAR rises 4.4% in Q1.
Reflecting back to August 2023, IHG’s RevPAR reported an impressive year-on-year increase of 24%, with a notable rebound in Greater China. The region’s recovery was essential to IHG’s overall performance, as highlighted by CEO Elie Maalouf’s comments regarding sustained demand and the impact of their enhanced loyalty programmes. IHG’s tailored initiatives targeting growth in this dynamic market have clearly been pivotal, especially amidst global travel restrictions loosening across other areas. IHG sees RevPAR jump 24% in H1.
Looking back to 2019, IHG’s performance in Greater China reflected an increasing resilience, with net systems growth marked by a significant push in hotel signings despite a slight dip in RevPAR. At that time, IHG reported some challenges, yet maintained confidence in a robust financial outcome driven by strategic expansions. This historical context highlights a pattern of resilience and strategic foresight that continues to underpin IHG’s development plans today, as they navigate evolving market conditions in Greater China. IHG RevPAR slips in Q3 results.
