The Cumberland Hotel in Marble Arch has appointed Matthew Hurry and Stefano Tortelli as head chefs across its food and beverage operations, strengthening its culinary leadership as the London hotel continues to invest in its dining offering.
Hurry joins as head chef of The Cumberland, where he will oversee the hotel’s food and beverage operation, including Spanish tapas restaurant Lírica, as well as catering for its meetings and events spaces. He joins from The Angel Inn and previously spent more than three years leading the kitchen at The Stables at The Grove Hotel and Spa.
His career has also included senior roles at Hotel Café Royal, Sea Containers London, Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square and InterContinental London Park Lane. In 2019, he won the M Young Chef of the Year award while at Hotel Café Royal.
Tortelli has been appointed head chef of Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen at The Cumberland. He brings experience from a number of restaurant groups, having previously held senior roles at Margot, Enoteca Turi, Bocconcino and Gordon Ramsay Restaurants. Most recently, he served as brand executive head chef at Bulldozer Group, where he oversaw the group’s Italian restaurant portfolio, including the openings of ALBA in London and La Baia in Paris.
